Facial Nerve (CN VII) in Facial Canal & Inflammation of the Geniculate Ganglion

facial nerve in facial canal (cranial nerve VII), geniculate ganglion

Medium:

Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator

Description:

This image was created for a research poster for surgeons at Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center that explored an unusual case of Bell's palsy. It was postulated that wisdom tooth extraction surgery aggravated dormant Herpes virus in the geniculate ganglion, causing inflammation of the ganglion and leading to facial paralysis.
